After a European tour with the USAF, Machias natives David and Julie Barker returned home to raise their children, surrounded by family and friends. In 2004 the Barkers purchased and began renovating the farmhouse that became the Inn at Schoppee Farm. Staying in contact with members of the Schoppee family they feel honored that the family approves of the renovations to the historic 18OOs farmhouse.
After fifteen years of owning and operating the Inn, David and Julie decided to put the farm up for sale. In the summer of 2019, their niece Brecken Barker and her boyfriend Ryle Mortland decided that they wanted to buy the Inn and run it themselves. The couple officially took over mid-July.
Brecken and Ryle have highlighted the simple farmhouse character in each room with functional antiques and modern comforts. You will not find ruffles, potpourri, dried flower wreaths, doilies, or flowered bedding here.
The two are welcoming and are there to meet you, check you in, and help with any questions or concerns about the inn or the area.
Book your stay to rest, unplug, and enjoy.
A jewel of a home. I am thrown back to my childhood in Switzerland at the farm of my mother’s family, cozy and warm. I love the simplicity and charm-great job."
